Now, the hardest part of creating the baby dragon is over, but we have another small step to take care of before we can paint textures—unwrapping the model to create UVs. Creating UVs won't take anywhere near as long as retopology (thank goodness!), but this is still a very technical and important part of the process.
Ultimately, our goal is to make our model look fantastic and we can't do that without colors, materials, and textures. UVs will give us a sort of canvas to paint our textures onto. In this chapter, we will make UVs for our baby dragon so that it will be ready for texture painting in the following chapter.
The following topics will be covered in this chapter:
- What are UVs?
- Setting up Blender for the UV unwrapping workflow
- Marking seams and UV unwrapping
- Laying out the baby dragon's UVs
