Appendix A – The Site Reliability Engineer Manifesto
Often, we have received a question such as, “What does a site reliability engineer do?”. Although we could list all site reliability engineering activities with some effort, how long would the list be valid or complete in a domain where the technology changes constantly?
Therefore, we don’t define site reliability engineering by what a site reliability engineer (SRE) does but by which principles a whole organization follows and by the skills the SREs who work at these organizations develop.
In essence, they should be accomplishing the following goals:
- Follow through on the site reliability engineering tenets
- Implement site reliability engineering best practices
- Employ site reliability engineering techniques
- Develop site reliability engineering skills
