Data handling is a key requirement expected from any software regardless of the architectural style used to build them. In SOA, there can be various heterogeneous application integrations. An application that runs on the Oracle database can be communicated with a data processing web service which connects to an MS SQL database. The brokering middleware solutions such as Enterprise Service Buses (ESB) facilitate the necessary data format transformations, which need to be happening when communicating incompatible systems.
