Developing a dashboard purpose
When creating a dashboard, it is very important that it has an objective. There are three key questions you can ask yourself to help you get the answers that identify those objectives:
- Who is the audience?
- What are their requirements?
- Where will the dashboard be viewed (on a big screen or a mobile phone)?
A dashboard must tell a story or answer a question, but we cannot do either of those things without answering the preceding questions. Let’s refer to the personas introduced in Chapter 1 to think about the type of people who need dashboards, what they want from them, and where they will see them:
