Introducing a PostgreSQL server for your database
With the release of Veeam Backup and Replication v12, another database option has been introduced – a PostgreSQL server. All previous Veeam Backup and Replication versions were Microsoft SQL Server installations, whether it was SQL Server Express (LocalDB) or directing the installation to a full-blown SQL server (Standard or Enterprise). Within v12, both are available for your deployment – SQL Server or PostgreSQL.
Those reading and hearing about a PostgreSQL server for the first time might ask how it differs from Microsoft SQL Server. The most significant difference is that PostgreSQL is an open source relational database. In contrast, SQL Server requires licensing to be able to use it unless you use the free SQL Express edition, which is limited to a 10 GB file size limit and one socket, or four CPU cores.
