This book has 10 chapters and covers alot. The author takes great point in keeping it simple which is what I like. He starts off talking about GDD and simply how gaming isn't just about coding. Coding gives me anxiety and to start off saying, hey, it's not just about the coding, it's about the experience. That definitely put me at ease and made me realize, this is a journey, not a sprint, take in everything you can and not just focus solely on the code. I've never read a book that breaks down the Pitch (attention grabbing presentation that goes over the essence of your game). It also breaks down the pipeline of the progression. It also delves into the UX (players experience) and goes over the impressions and emotions players undergo while playing a game. The book has a lot of examples, the pictures are readable but the only issue I have is you don't see any game assets or anything until you're almost at the end of the book(Chapter 9). You don't see any game asset examples in the books at all (maybe 3 total). There's plenty of examples on the Unity interface but my only issue is there's not example pic of objects on the screen to know if you're doing it right, mainly text advising of the steps in which to proceed. This is not a beginner book and it doesn't cover C#, the code listed is advanced covering C# Scripts and AI Logic. If you are starting out, some of the concepts may be foreign but the book does delve into topics I hadn't delved into yet. Overall, a good read and definitely for those with a great sense of Unity and C# programming language.

I was given this book to review and tell what my thoughts were about it. In no way shape or form does this have any influence on what my thoughts on this are.I enjoyed the way the layout of this book is. It starts off with explaining things such as GDD and Pitch and how to use these in will help your approach in making games. There are so many different things in this book that are very creative and has a great learning curve. This book goes through Features, Gameplay Breakdowns, Project Scopes and Technical Requirements. Adding this to the other books of this series and you will be ahead of the game, pun included. I like that they breakdown each section to make it where you can understand so much more. Take it bite sizes and increase your knowledge. This book also talks about the players experience which gives another perspective for the game programmer. There are so many different things that the creators of this book put into it and you can tell it's created with passion and understanding that is very addictive. There is no limit when it comes to creating the perfect game or at least as perfect as it can be.The book goes on to explain Folder Structure as well as how to keep everything in harmony as you go along. By the time you finish reading the book you will feel like a pro.I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to either start creating games and even those who have been creating games for a while.Thank you for reading my review of this book. There is so much more that is in this book that I have not mentioned and I think that is up to those who will get this book and start their adventures with it.

The bad: Chapter 3 lacks total depth.Having only 11 pages for the new Input System is straight up criminal. And these 11 pages contain only half finished code, so you have to write the rest or implement it the way you're used to.With teaching the (soon to be) deprecated Cinemachine 2.X Version it's not getting better there. I skipped this part, because I use Cinemachine 3 (the newest release) so these pages are totally lackluster and I don't understand why the author did not choose to cover Cinemachine 3 instead. (The quality might be good, but I can't utilize it because Cinemachine 3 is completely different). But the rest of the book did indeed contain a lot's of stuff that is really useful to keep in mind.- Tips for how to create game mechanics- In depth state machine creating your own AI- and much more. With 30€ you can't go wrong with this book I guess.

This book is very insightful in game development, primarily with Unity and C#. This book highlights the importance of good practices such as organizing projects (including project planning), Writing clean and modular code, optimizing user interfaces, and many other vital core concepts. I particularly enjoyed that this book reinforces skills that make for a great programmer with Unity being its prime tool to showcase this. This book also covers various topics such as creating a save and load system which I found to be extremely helpful. Overall, this book is a great resource for those looking to get into game development and Unity. The structure of the book is also a great resource if you are looking for a curriculum style of format.

This book covers a TON of topics surrounding game development principles. I enjoyed chapter 2 in particular, as it covers how to write clean code for your video game project, following industry-standard coding principles (SRP, OCP, LSP, ISP, DIP) and refactoring techniques (DRY, KISS). If utilized correctly, these methods for writing code can make your video game and you as a developer truly stand out. Making a game is one thing, but if you write sloppy code and patchwork things together, it can seriously impact your games performance, which can really turn off players. I found the examples and diagrams super helpful as well, as I am more of a visual learner. Overall, I’m very happy with how this book was organized, as well as the depth and clarity in which it was written. This is a book that I will be returning to as a reference guide while continuing on my video game development journey!
