Time for action—exploring echo and simple delays
LMMS has a lot of delays and reverbs, but the categories can be broken down so that they are easier to understand:
- Mute all FX channels in the Mixer except for TechSynth1.
- Go to the effects chain for TechSynth1, and click on Add Effect.
- Select LADSPA Echo Delay Line (Maximum Delay 5s).
This is a very simple delay, called an echo. Delays like this do not incorporate reverb. They simply repeat whatever signal they receive. Adjust the delay knob to get a longer or shorter delay. Use the Dry/Wet Balance knob to adjust the level of the delay to the original signal. Play around with these settings and listen to the result.
- Click on the Link Channels button to make Channel 1 and Channel 2 independent of each other.
- Now set Channel 1 to 2550 ms and Channel 2 to 800 ms:
- Now listen to this simple echo. It should sound as if the sound is bouncing from the left to the right speaker.
- Now go back to the effects chain and disable the echo.
