Understanding system fields

Jira comes with several built-in system fields. You have already seen a few of them in the previous chapters. Many of the system fields, such as Project, Issue Type, and Summary, are mandatory by default, and all issues must have values for them, while others, such as assignee and description, are optional. These system fields are often tied directly into different features of Jira so you cannot remove them.

The following table lists the main system fields in Jira:
