Practical DevOps mobility cases and precautions
The mobility of people is an important mechanism that I consider part of incubation and part of the tactical adoption approach. In simple terms, the concept of mobility enables people from different parts of the organization to change teams and positions either virtually (see the DevOps CoE engagements) or permanently (by full moves to new teams). Mobility as with our DevOps evolution adoption is divided into two main approaches – organic, when people self-seek new opportunities within the organization, and tactical, when people are intentionally moved from one part of the organization to another.
DevOps mobility is a concept that I have experienced in several forms, and while it can involve practical difficulties to implement, it has paid off in the following applicable cases:
