Chapter 5. Active Tasks
The primary role of ResearchKit is to engage the study participant in activities designed to elicit data in order to address questions posed by the study. Through the use of directed activities, ResearchKit-based applications may record data from device sensors as well as information directly entered by the user. ResearchKit is shipped with five built-in active tasks that serve as example tasks and may be used in an application.
The five active tasks included in ResearchKit are as follows:
- Short walk task: This task measures motor activities by recording device motion and pedometer data while the study participant takes a short walk
- Two-finger tapping interval task: This task measures motor activities by recording data from the multitouch display while the study participant is rapidly and alternatively tapping two targets on the device screen rapidly and alternatively
- Fitness task: This task measures fitness levels by recording device motion, location, heart...
