Configuring Hyper-V hosts for replication
As with any of the technologies we have discussed in this book, there are best practices and deployment prerequisites that you must consider to have a successful deployment. Hyper-V Replica is no exception, so let’s review some of the talking points before deployment:
- What workloads will you replicate? Hyper-V Replica standard replication only maintains the consistency of the VM state during a failover and does not contain the application state. App-consistent recovery points can be created, but this is not available on extended recovery replica sites.
- How will you complete the initial replication of the VM data? There are many options available, from completing the initial replication over the existing network immediately or at a later date, to completing the transmission using an already existing restored VM, to even using offline media to deliver the preexisting VM and all snapshots to the replica site.
- Which virtual...
