Making concept art for props

What is a prop? When I tried to search for the English translation of oggetti di scena, the Italian equivalent, I was surprised to find that prop is not an industry term such as rendering, but a term with synonyms and meanings in the normal English language. A definition that lets us understand what a prop is in concept art is provided here:

"Verb: (of a horse) come to a dead stop with the forelegs rigid."

No, wait…. Wrong one… Here's another definition:

"Verb: Support or keep in position"

OK—that's the right one… Props concept art is something that supports the rest of the production. It's the design of those little lamps in Kratos's home in God of War, the design of the swords of the Sun elves in The Dragon Prince, the shotgun in DOOM… Imagine DOOM without a shotgun!
