Future trends
The container landscape is maturing. Where containers have been around for quite some time, only in the last couple of years has the growth in container usage been enormous. Instead of researching whether we can run something in a container, resulting in a maybe in the near future, it has now become a logical choice for the next version of a solution. Even though the technology of containers itself is very mature (Docker, containerd, Open Container Initiative), the orchestration of containers is something we are still struggling with from a maturity perspective.
As we have learned throughout this book, a lot of solutions end up in Kubernetes, which can be a very complex platform. We are not talking about the maturity of technology but about the maturity of organizations and teams using that technology. Often, they don’t have the processes in place to successfully manage those technologies. The same could be said for IT in general as it is still relatively new...
