Introducing the ICS and its components
To manage and control most of the industrial processes and machinery in various sectors, industries, and energy plants, an ICS is used to effectively monitor, automate, and optimize complex industrial operations. As mentioned earlier, besides efficiency, there are also other objectives of the ICS, such as process control automation, safety, remote monitoring and control, and high-standard quality control.

As Figure 12.1 shows, typical ICSs normally include two parts. The first part is the control system and the other is the field. The control system includes a central control unit, operation monitoring screen, turbine building, and also a thermal power plant.
