The Microsoft Security Compliance Toolkit
The Microsoft Security Compliance Toolkit (SCT) allows you to analyze your systems against a series of baseline security settings recommended by Microsoft. It analyzes settings such as your Group Policy and local policies to check whether they are consistent with a series of baselines that you provide. As you get more familiar with the SCT, you may start to create your own baselines to reference against.
Getting started
For this, you'll need a Windows Server 2019 server. Any previously configured Windows 2019 Server will do. We've built a lot of servers over the course of this book, so I'm going to choose my server, web01
, to run the compliance toolkit against. We'll also need a Windows 10 computer with RSAT tools installed for doing some Group Policy imports.
How to do it…
On your chosen server, do the following:
