Software requirements

There is no special software requirement for installing and running Hyper-V Replica; all you need to have is a Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V role installed. If you want to use SSL certificate based authentication for encrypting the replicated data between two Hyper-V servers for your virtual machine replication traffic, you are required to have a certificate. You can either use your internal Microsoft certification authority (CA) certificate or you can purchase a third-party CA certificate. The latter one is preferred if you are planning to replicate your virtual machine data over a public medium such as the Internet.
