Infrastructure management

Gartner defines IT infrastructure this way:

IT infrastructure is the system of hardware, software, facilities, and service components that support the delivery of business systems and IT-enabled processes.

Infrastructure management can be broken down into three key stages: capacity planning, infrastructure provisioning, and deployment, as can be seen in the following diagram:

Capacity planning

Capacity planning is the first step in infrastructure management and is followed by provisioning and deployment. Several tools can help with collecting the data needed to accurately plan resources as collecting accurate data is crucial to do so.
