OSINT
As previously noted, one of the sources that attackers use to gather information about their target victims is open source intelligence techniques, known as OSINT.
OSINT is a framework used to gather information from public sources such as social media, public records, government websites, academic research, news articles, or other publicly available data.
It enables analysts to gather information from sources that may not be accessible through conventional means. For instance, a social media post could provide valuable information about a person’s thoughts or actions that would be impossible to obtain through a background check or conventional searches.
