Matrix boxes
When we already have the table data region that allows us to group the dataset on row level, what would the matrix data region give us as an added value? The answer is: column groupings.
Basically, a matrix is like a crosstab or pivot table in Excel. A matrix can have dynamic columns and rows and static columns and rows. A matrix data region in Reporting Services is very much like a matrix control on a form in the Dynamics NAV Classic Client. It's not completely the same. This is the definition of the Matrix control in the Classic Client:
