Artefact
Optical distortion within an image caused by (too much) image compression. Filters in Elements can be used to minimize the negative aspects of this ugly occurrence.
Bit depth
The amount of data in a digital file. The higher the bit depth, the more potential you have, especially for editing. Files have to be reduced in bit depth for printing as most printers have limited capabilities.
Bitmap
A method of storing digital information by mapping out an image bit by bit. The density of the pixels determines how sharp the image resolution will be.
CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black) color
The color space used for commercial offset printing. CMYK is also a common working color space for inkjet, laser, and dye-sublimation printers.
Color Calibration
The process of regulating the color on a computer monitor so that what you see onscreen is an accurate representation of what was captured by the camera.
