The Hyper-V role in Windows Server enables you to virtualize operating systems and to create a dynamic and efficient computing environment. In this chapter, we will be determining the hardware and software requirements for Hyper-V, before looking at how to install, configure, and manage it. We will configure the virtual machine (VM) memory and Integration Services, determine the appropriate usage scenarios of Generation 1 and Generation 2 VMs, perform remote management of remote Hyper-V hosts, and implement nested virtualization.
We will then create a VM, configure VM memory, and export and import virtual machines. Finally, we will configure the Hyper-V storage, create VHD and VHDX virtual hard disks, and configure Hyper-V networking by configuring Hyper-V virtual switches.
