Rendering spirographs
In this recipe we will play with the Spirograph extension to create some interesting patterns.
How to do it...
The following steps will show how to render spirographs:
1. Open the the Spirograph dialog by going to Extensions | Render | Spirograph....
2. Set R (Ring radius) to 100, r (Gear radius) to 81, d (Pen radius) to 70, and Gear Placement to Outside (Epitrochoid).
3. Leave the other options as default and press Apply, the spirograph will be rendered at the center of the visible Canvas. Don't close the dialog yet!
4. Pan the Canvas so that the spirograph isn't in the center any more.
5. Change the Gear Placement to Inside (Hypotrochoid).
6. Press Apply. The second spirograph will be rendered at the center of the visible Canvas, but it will be smaller than the first one.
7. On the Selector toolbar, turn off the Scale stroke width button and turn the lock ratio button between the width and height boxes on.
8. Copy the first spirograph (Ctrl + C), select the second, and...
