Summary

In this chapter, we focused on fundamental and foundational elements of the DevOps evolution. We discussed the value proposition of the DevOps portfolio classification, registry, governance, and readiness. Initially, we focused on the core definitions of classification, and we deep-dived into the main classifications that incumbents use. For both classifications, we provided a proposed tiering using concrete examples. That led us to combine those classifications and enrich them toward defining the DevOps speed formula of this book. We continued with a short real-life story and saw how that inspired the creation of a complementary framework to portfolio classification: the LCD. We looked into some important criteria and provided a detailed governance model for inspiration, along with some points for consideration.
