Using presets in Handbrake
If you have a massive number of files that need changes, it might not be realistic to set the transcoder’s settings for each file. Luckily, Handbrake has a Preset drop-down menu full of presets that change dimension, video, and sound quality settings depending on the platform and resolution you want to encode a video for. The default preset is fast 1080p30 (1920x1080 resolution, 30 frames per second, fast encoder preset – more on that later). A couple of the platform-specific formats that you may want to try are:
- Preset | Web | Discord Small 2 Minutes 360p30
- Preset | Web | Gmail Large 3 Minutes 720p30
These presets can be very useful because they squeeze your video file inside the free file upload limits for Discord (8 MB) and Gmail (25 MB). Try selecting these and seeing what settings it changes in the different Handbrake menus. It’s a useful learning experience for setting your own presets. Speaking of that…...
