End-User Computing and Shadow IT
End-User Computing (EUC) refers to a system wherein a non-programmer can quickly build and deploy their own applications without relying on an IT department. Various products are available to aid end- users in designing and implementing systems according to their requirements without the help of IT. These applications are generally flexible and can quickly address any new requirements or modifications. EUC reduces pressure on the IT department; since users create and manage their own tools—like spreadsheets, reports, or small applications—the IT staff do not need to be involved in every minor software request or customization. The department can concentrate on more critical and complex applications.
