Configuration Management
Configuration management focuses on establishing and maintaining accurate and up-to-date information about the configuration items (CIs) in an organization’s IT infrastructure. CIs include hardware, software, documentation, and other components that contribute to delivering IT services. The primary goal of configuration management is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the configuration items, their relationships, and the configurations of the services they support. This information is crucial for various ITSM processes, including change management, incident management, and problem management. ISO/IEC 12207, titled Systems and software engineering – Software life cycle processes, provides guidelines for configuration management throughout the software development life cycle.
