Gateway design considerations
When designing a vehicle telematics gateway, it’s crucial to integrate a variety of technologies to ensure comprehensive functionality and connectivity. Incorporating Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technology enables precise location tracking and navigation, enhancing services such as fleet management and emergency response. The Controller Area Network (CAN) and various sensors facilitate real-time monitoring and reporting of vehicle performance metrics, including engine health, fuel consumption, and driver behavior. To ensure seamless connectivity, both wireless and wired communication protocols are employed, allowing the gateway to transmit and receive data over cellular networks, Wi-Fi, and dedicated physical connections. The inclusion of an embedded Subscriber Identity Module (eSIM) further revolutionizes this connectivity, offering flexibility in network provider selection and enabling remote subscription management.
