Simulating the MPBF Process
Welcome to Chapter 13. In this chapter, we will explore how to simulate the printing process within a metal powder bed fusion (MPBF) 3D printer. MPBF machines are among the most expensive 3D printers. Metal powder is an expensive form of 3D printing material. Therefore, any mistake or print failure is a costly one when it comes to metal 3D printing. Fusion 360 users with Additive Build extension access can simulate their MPBF printing process to detect and rectify common print failure modes, such as part distortion and recoater blade interference. In this chapter, we will highlight how to perform such analyses and make the necessary changes to avoid common print failure modes.
In this chapter, we will cover the following topics:
- Setting up a process simulation
- Interpreting the results
- Compensating for distortions and updating the setup
By the end of this chapter, you will have learned how to select a component in an additive setup...
