Grouping Data
The grouping of data is useful when you want to simplify or stack multiple dimension rows/members into one bigger bucket. For example, say you are working on a report on the population of countries in the world, and the standard data does not contain a custom grouping of all the South Asian countries. When you decide to create a custom grouping of all the South Asian countries by grouping countries such as India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and so on, you will notice that a new dimension is added in your Data
pane:
As is often the case with Tableau features, you can achieve the same results in multiple ways. You can use either of the following methods to create a group:
- Create a group from the worksheet view.
- Create a group from the
Data
pane.
