Summary
Although this chapter was specifically about visualization using the SAS ODS, it echoes two basic themes we see throughout this book. The first theme is that many believe that SAS's power is in its PROCs, its data step language, and its capabilities with arrays, macro variables, and macros. These features have been used over the years to develop extensive print reports in SAS using the ODS (not to mention complex ETL code). Now, the same basic features are being used to serve SAS data to the web. SAS is a company that has constantly innovated throughout its life, creating new products and capabilities, such as SAS/ACCESS, and the ability to connect to cloud storage in Snowflake. It is likely that SAS will continue on this route, developing new subcomponents and products to address new technological challenges.
