Pretexting

Pretexting is the act of presenting oneself as someone else with the intention of manipulating others into giving out sensitive information or complying with a request. It is more than telling lies about who you are, it is about becoming the person you claim to be. Pretexts give social engineers several incentives that they do not otherwise enjoy while acting as themselves. A social engineer will be willing to change everything about himself to fit into a pretext. How they talk, walk, dress, use facial expressions, and use gestures has to exactly match their pretext. To many, pretexting may appear to be as simple as changing one's physical appeal. However, it is deeper than that. Pretexting is more of a science. A person will assume a totally different personality that at times is in conflict with the real person deep inside. Therefore, pretexting has to be planned...
