Shading with Shading Assist
It’s totally fine to add shade by yourself, but sometimes it’s useful to use a special function that is made for generating shade on your picture, especially when you need to draw tons of characters in a limited timescale. Of course, using Shading Assist only assists us by suggesting some different ways of shading and applying specific shading to different artworks, but it’s not replaceable for our own unique shading: expressing the environment and mood of art perfectly. It is still an interesting and useful tool, however.
Let’s try using it and see how our art will be shaded! Follow these steps:
- Create an artwork that is divided into a line art layer, flat color layers, and a paper color layer.
- Set the line art layer as a reference layer, as we learned in the Using reference layers section.
- Create a layer folder that contains all flat color layers, as shown in Figure 16.20.
