Understanding IIoT architectural principles
The Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy in Germany, in its vision for 2030, proposed three main pillars for shaping digital ecosystems globally: autonomy, interoperability, and sustainability. We can derive some key principles of architectural design from them. Autonomy focuses on the independent yet informed decision-making capabilities of individual components of the system. Interoperability helps create flexible networking between various stakeholders to create agile value networks. This has enabled standards and regulatory frameworks that aid in the seamless interconnection and exchange of information. Sustainability is a key pillar, focusing on a responsible manufacturing environment with social and corporate governance in mind.
