Getting buy-in of data stewardship from stakeholders

Before we can get to the data operating model, let’ s make sure we gain the buy-in from stakeholders.

Have you heard that the average duration of a chief data officer (CDO) at the same company is three years?

CDOs are the ones who initialize transformations to create master data, improve data quality, and trace data lineage. Why do CDOs usually not stay in the company for more than three years? Because they are not able to get the buy-in from stakeholders on the business value of data programs.

As a result, data and data programs are seen as a cost, funding gets stopped, and the CDO gets fired.

Despite the importance of the CDO role and data stewardship, they are set up to fail if there is poor buy-in from stakeholders.
