Enabling collaboration
The most important aspect for a team to be able to work together is alignment, which I will simply define as the ability and desire of team members to go in the same direction. It is important to reflect on both dimensions – ability and desire.
Team members must be able to work in the same direction; they must know and clearly understand the expected common direction (that must be the same of the management), and they should not have conflicting priorities or assignments. This is especially important for teams where not all the people depend on the same organization/manager.
Team members must be willing to work in the same direction; they must have knowledge and competence that allows them to work effectively in the team, and they must actively participate in the creation of the team direction to have a real buy-in in the team’s work.
