Exporting for printing

Now take a deep breath because at this stage, if something goes wrong, sometimes it's not your fault, nor is it the fault of the guy who prints your file. It's just the printer that is smelling your fear and decides that everything needs to go wrong one day before an exam. 99% of the time, however, it's a problem created by you or your printer. A lot of the time, errors occur because you've sent a file with the wrong color profile, values that can't be printed correctly, or the wrong file type. So, before anything else, you need to call the printer and ask the following questions:

  • Do they print comics?
  • Which color profile do they use? Usually, it's the last FOGRA color profile (at least here in Italy).
  • Which type of file do they want? Do they want a JPG, PNG, Tiff, or PDF?
  • How much bleed do they want? Do they want a 0.3 mm or a 0.5 mm bleed? Or do they use a different one altogether?
  • Which kind of paper do they...
