Summary
As we worked through this chapter, we shifted focus on streamlining conceptual designs and generating alternative grading designs with the Grading Optimization toolset, available in Autodesk Civil 3D 2025. This tool enhances design efficiencies and saves a lot of time at the conceptual design phase, by automating land grading rapidly. We can also quickly see real-time visualizations of our results as it considers the various user-defined constraints that are applied. As we walked through, we can simply start with some very basic AutoCAD geometry and Cogo Points.
In the next chapter, we will switch focus from grading to utility design tools. Here, we’ll begin exploring how best we can utilize both Civil 3D and the Content Catalog Editor, generating custom utility fittings that we can apply directly to our designs. Civil 3D comes with a lot of great foundational utility components in its out-of-the-box part catalogs, but it isn’t always a one-size-fits-all solution...
