Understanding SketchUp’s capabilities
As I mentioned in the introduction to this chapter, there are a lot of different 3D modeling software options out there and they have some very different approaches to creating 3D geometry. Some modeling software focuses on using tools to generate rigid, hard-sided geometry, while others have tools to allow you to sculpt geometry in 3D space similar to creating a clay model. There is even software that allows you to “paint” space in virtual reality, then export your 3D paintings to be printed in 3D!
When it comes to modeling in SketchUp, it can help to remember where SketchUp comes from and what the tools were created for initially.
