Sculpting hair with FiberMesh

If your goal is to create a classic sculpture, sculpting the hair is the way to go. But perhaps you want to create a realistic render with a 3D render engine outside of ZBrush. In that case, you can use ZBrush’s tool for hair creation, FiberMesh.

Important note

While FiberMesh can be used to create realistic hair in software such as Maya, it is not an industry-standard tool. Grooming artists mainly use XGen, Yeti, or Houdini – they offer a variety of sophisticated tools that let you create a variety of different hairstyles with many more settings, but more importantly, the workflow is less manual and less destructive. In ZBrush, the grooming process will require using grooming brushes, and there is no option to get automatic effects. Tools such as XGen, on the other hand, let you add effects such as clumping and noise through simple sliders and values.
