Summary

In this chapter, you have learned how to report on user activities using Moodle's internal reporting facilities, to use report generation alternatives, as well as external web analytics tools. We have also dealt with a number of miscellaneous reports provided by Moodle.

Early on, we mentioned a student who insisted that he or she has submitted an assignment that cannot be located. The student will approach the teacher who will then use the course logs to identify the file. If this remains unsuccessful the teacher will contact you as the administrator to shed some more light on the issue. You can then use the sitewide logs for the user, in case the file has been uploaded in a different course. This escalation is typical in scenarios when problems arise that cannot be resolved at course level.

One concern about reporting on user activities is the preservation of the users' privacy and protection of associated data stored. The next chapter will cover these aspects.
