Nano Server versus Server Core
Imagine you own two cars, the family SUV and a mid-size sedan. The SUV has all of the bells and whistles, and can do pretty much whatever you want. The sedan gets you where you need to go, but it is smaller, and maybe a little more limited. The upside is that it was cheaper to acquire and consumes fewer resources as you roll down the road. You can see where this is going, the SUV is Windows Server Desktop Experience (GUI), and the sedan is our Server Core.
Now picture a moped. Super small, incredibly efficient on fuel, and very simple when compared to a car, so that build and repair times are considerably lower. The potential for it to break in the first place is lower as well, as all of the components are simplified and aren't put through a lot of stress. Nano Server is your moped.
