Breaking into the industry
If you are looking to become an SE, you probably are a practitioner in that you work in the industry for an organization, have administrator rights, and manage elements of a production environment. If this is you and you enjoy presenting technical details to your team and can explain complex topics in a way that most people can understand, then I want to encourage you to really consider becoming an SE. Regardless of where you are in your station and stage of life, the following tips can help you get ready to break into the industry:
- Ensure that your LinkedIn profile is tight: You should have a professional photo taken and a mentor review your profile page to offer recommendations to improve it. Recruiters in the high-technology vertical will almost always review your LinkedIn page, and if it looks sloppy, they might move on.
