Using ATI Stream
In this recipe, we will use ATI Stream to crack password hashes. ATI Stream is similar to CUDA in that it is a parallel computing platform that increases computing performance by harnessing the power of the graphics processing unit (GPU). As time has passed, GPU processing power has increased dramatically which allows us the ability to use it for our computational purposes. For demonstration purposes, we will use OclHashcat-plus to crack the passwords. OclHashcat comes in two versions: plus and lite. Both are included with
Kali Linux.
Getting ready
An ATI Stream supported graphics card is required to complete this exercise.
How to do it...
Let's begin the process by working with OclHashcat-plus.
Open a terminal window and change to the directory that contains OclHashcat:
Cd /usr/share/oclhashcat-plus
Execute the command to launch the oclHashcat-lite
help
file../oclHashcat-plus64.bin –help
The syntax for running OclHashcat is in the form of
oclHashcat-plus64.bin [options] hash...
