Introducing alerts and incidents
Dashboards are visual tools to enhance understanding of the IT landscape and everything within. While dashboards present a lot of information in processed and crunched format, are easy to consume, and can be built for both technical and business audiences at different levels, they require a set of human eyes to watch them, read the information, and infer meaning from it. There is no limit to the number of dashboards that can be built, but there is a limit to the number of human eyes that can be employed to look at them and the number of screens on which they can be displayed. Does it mean that it is impossible to use the dashboards? Not at all! As explained in the previous section, dashboards should be built specifically for a purpose and audience and should be maintained as long as they stay relevant.
