Networking overview

Hyper-V Network virtualization provides an abstraction layer above your physical network, quite similarly to how server virtualization provides VMs from a physical host. Network virtualization decouples virtual networks from the physical network infrastructure and removes the constraints of physical adapters, VLAN, and segregated networks on a physical level. Hyper-V Network virtualization is a big prerequisite for real flexibility in an IT infrastructure. An elastic IT infrastructure, commonly named Cloud, benefits from this feature and allows efficient management of networking.

In the past, the necessary multi-tenant isolation while fulfilling all security requirements could only be achieved through huge investments in network infrastructure.
