Disaster Recovery
The previous chapters primarily focused on the security operations, confidentiality, and integrity of the infrastructure. This chapter on disaster recovery will focus on the availability component of the CIA triad. Specifically, this chapter focuses on the resilience and reliability of the IT infrastructure. This is especially important for any on-premises infrastructure. Data in the cloud is managed by the cloud provider, although organizations must consider the amount of resilience that they purchase with their storage and compute infrastructure and whether that amount meets their needs, which is usually decided during the design phase of a cloud infrastructure.
All information systems are built with potential disasters in mind, and resilience is about not only being able to protect against attacks, accidents, and natural disasters but also how prepared a system is to recover from such incidents with minimal data loss and downtime.
