We have covered a lot of information in this chapter and you have learned that WANs are extremely important. We need to choose the right type of connection, security, protocols, and, most importantly, our provider. In the next chapter, we will go into some advanced topics of the overall technologies we have already discussed.
We have learnt about the HDLC protocol and its drawbacks when compared to PPP, which you will be configuring and learning the process and the components that make up PPP. We have also briefly touch upon VPN’s and their importance when using remote users. We have also discussed GRE tunnels, and gain the understanding of their use and how to configure GRE on our network.
