Failure to Communicate

In the movie Cool Hand Luke,6 there is a quote from a scene that Guns N’ Roses made famous in their song “Civil War,” where the Captain says to Luke:

“What we’ve got here is failure to communicate.” - Strother Martin, as the Captain

In the growing world of data and analytics, data scientists and statisticians tend to struggle to describe what they are seeing in the data to the lay person. Likewise, non-data scientists and non-statisticians tend to struggle to figure out what to measure.

The two sides often have difficulties hearing what the other is trying to say. It’s a true “failure to communicate” moment. When thinking about this in terms of analytical versus non-analytical people, it is actually easy to understand the discrepancy. But think about the other scenarios too:
