Identifying Where Teams Stores Content
In Microsoft Teams, the locations where files and content are stored depends on how and where they are shared—this can be in chats, channels, or during meetings. This system is key for effective data management, collaboration, and compliance.
For individual or group chats, files are saved in the uploader’s OneDrive for Business, specifically in a folder named Microsoft Teams Chat Files. This setup automatically shares the files with those in the chat, offering a secure method for distributing documents directly within a chat.
When content is shared within team channels, it is stored on SharePoint. Each team in Teams has a corresponding SharePoint Online site, creating a document library for channel uploads. Every channel has its own folder on the team’s SharePoint site, enhancing file sharing, collaboration, and the use of SharePoint’s document management features.
