Summary

This chapter covered the fundamentals of workload migration to the cloud. Then, we discussed different industry patterns and strategies for cloud migration and their value to organizations. Selecting suitable patterns and strategies for cloud migration can maximize the benefits of workload migration to the cloud. This section explained the characteristics of different migration patterns, enabling organizations to choose the most suitable patterns and strategies for cloud migration based on workload classification. Then, we explained a common scenario for organizations and the roadmap for cloud migration. Finally, we discussed the different stages of a well-defined end-to-end roadmap for cloud migration, along with some myths about cloud migration.

This chapter focused on the fundamentals of cloud migration. Workload migration alone cannot bring the maximum benefits for an organization; workload modernization and innovation are also required.

In the next chapter, we will discuss the fundamentals of modernization.
